Peter Lim joined the Singapore Police Force in Mar 1964 and retired as a Senior Superintendent of Police after more than 40 years in service.

Peter held various positions in the Police service:

  • Detective in Criminal Investigation Department (CID), dealing with secret societies (triads) and vice activities
  • Inspector of Police in the Special Investigation Section, CID.
  • Head Investigations at Tanglin Police
  • Assistant Director of the Specialised Crime Division, CID, dealing with secret societies and vice activities.
  • Commander of Bedok Police (5 years)
  • Commandant of the School of Criminal Investigation

Peter is a veteran officer who had managed investigators at both division levels and at CID as well. As Head Investigations Tanglin, he was in charge of a hundred or more investigators and detectives, training, supervising and mentoring them. As Assistant Director of the Specialised Crime Division, he was in charge of very specialised investigators and detectives, watching over Singapore against these specific fields of criminal activities. As Commandant of School of Criminal Investigations, Peter was looked to for setting up and teaching of the best known criminal investigations methods to police investigators in the Force, delivering the best skillsets and experience of investigations to young and aspiring investigators.

Of the hundreds of cases investigated or managed by Peter, these are 2 classic cases which were national news:

The “Curry Murder”

In 1984, this “Curry Murder” case held the nation in suspense due to the gruesome nature of the murder, and the uncanny and cruel way the victim’s body was disposed. The victim, a caretaker aged 37, was allegedly bludgeoned to death with an iron rod at the Orchard Road Presbyterian Church. The killing was unreported until 1987 when the victim’s wife and 3 brothers were arrested for suspicion of the murder. They later admitted to having disposed the victim’s body by cutting it up and cooking the body parts in curry before throwing them away in plastic bags at 2 different bin centres. They were released later due to lack of evidence for court prosecution, but the brothers were re-arrested and detained under the Criminal Law (Temporary Provisions) Act.

Collapse of New World Hotel

Peter was a member of the CID team which investigated the collapse of Hotel New World at Serangoon Road on 15 Mar 1986. This case horrified the nation as it was the first of its kind in Singapore. In all, 33 persons died in the collapse while 17 others were rescued from the debris. Peter was also the lead CID investigator who assisted the Attorney General Chambers in the lengthy Coroner’s Inquiry into the collapse and death of 33 victims.

Peter’s investigative intuition and skills are an immense asset to RHTFDA.
